GNG Recreation is excited to partner with Phoenix Academy of Martial Arts to bring more opportunities to learn martial arts to our community.  Karate is an activity that helps children develop humility, self-control, integrity, discipline, perseverance, and compassion.  

Instructor, Jeff Chandler, obtained his black belt in October 2015.  After moving to New Gloucester, he started attending classes at Phoenix Karate Academy in Auburn, Maine.  He was challenged to learn a new discipline and Sosai Hary and Sosai Donna Harris welcomed him with open arms and they say, "The rest is history."  Jeff began teaching a wide variety of students from toddlers to adults.  In the summer of 2016, Jeff expanded and began offering classes to Rise and Sine Daycare in his backyard.  He believes that the discipline students learn through karate is helpful in everyday life.  He is excited to share his skills with more children in our community!

Classes will be separated by ages and will be offered in both Gray at the Newbegin Gym and in New Gloucester at the Community Building.  Scholarships are available.

5:15-5:45pm Beginner Karate for kids in Pre K- 1st Grade
5:45-6:30pm Beginner Karate for kids in 2nd-4th Grade
6:30-7:15pm Beginner Karate for kids in 5th Grade and up.

There may be some adjustments to the times as we see which ages are most interested

Wednesday evenings in Gray @ Newbegin Gym
Thursday evenings in New Glocuester @ the Community Building
